101RECIPES: Beef with coffee
Coffee used as an ingredient to offer something a little different can challenge the most demanding and curious palates even in recipes such as this one: beef with coffee has actually proven to be a dish with an elegant taste and perfect harmony. Exquisite. Why not give it a go!
- 1 filet of beef of roughly 500 gr
- 125 ml of meat stock
- 100 ml of coffee (i.e. 2 full espresso cups)
- Half a white onion
- Extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of acacia honey
- Salt to taste
The first step is to prepare the coffee. For this recipe we have chosen the full but not bitter taste of 101CAFFE’ Gran Milano. Once prepared, set it aside to cool.
Now cut the filet into slices of roughly 1.5 cm thick and place them on a plate.
Dice the onion and fry it with a little oil. Once lightly browned, transfer it to a bowl and set it aside.
In the same pan in which you fried the onion, add a drizzle of oil and the sliced beef.
Cook over a low heat for 5 minutes, turning the slices occasionally. Finally, raise the heat to brown the surface, being careful to turn the slices at the right moment.
Once the slices of meat are golden on the surface, pour the coffee, onions and honey into the pan; immediately lower the heat and stir all the ingredients together. Leave them to cook on a low heat for 10 minutes, occasionally turning the coffee-flavored slices of beef.
Ladle in some stock, a little at a time, so that the coffee sauce remains at the right consistency. The cooking time will vary according to personal choice: medium or well done? It’s up to you…
Turn off the hob, place the slices of beef on a serving dish, and pour the sauce over the entire surface of the meat. To emphasize the coffee flavor even more, sprinkle the slices with a thin layer of ground coffee.
The beef with coffee is ready to be savored; perhaps combine it with a few slices of freshly seared sweet pepper or alternatively choose your preferred side dish. And finally, never miss out on a good espresso, such as 101CAFFE’ Gran Milano.
