101RECIPES: Coffee Meringues
Small cakes for big sweet-lovers: meringue is one of the most popular and best-loved specialities worldwide.
Light, crumbly, easily digestible; meringues can be enjoyed in a variety of ways: on their own or as a garnish for desserts, plain or with hints of other ingredients. We suggest them flavoured with coffee: our passion.
● 100 g egg whites
● 200 g Caster sugar
● 4 teaspoons of espresso coffee
To prepare your coffee meringues, can you guess what you need to do first? Prepare the coffee, of course!
Once dispensed, set it aside and leave it to cool.
Meanwhile, whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks and then add the sugar, a little at a time.
After the mixture is well whisked, add the coffee one teaspoon at a time. Now, the coffee meringue mixture is ready to be put into a piping bag. Pipe some dollops of mixture onto a baking tray that you previously lined with baking paper, keeping the coffee meringues a distance of about 1 cm apart.
When all the dollops are ready on the baking tray, you can put them in the oven at a temperature of 60°. Leave them in the oven to bake for about 4 hours. Baking at a low temperature is crucial for making delicious coffee meringues! Once ready, you can place them on a tray to cool. Tip: Enjoy them while sipping on a good coffee!
